I liked majority of the music on this album, but Elba stands out as my favorite. I'm a fiction writer and sometimes I need a little bit of help in the form of musical motivation and whenever I'm writing a scene of some conspiracy or plan of epic proportions, Elba is always playing in the background. If you don't listen to anything else, at the very least try Elba out. You won't be disappointed.

As much as loved "Makara", I really don't like "Unearthed". The drama of many of the pieces was lost by the distracting off beat electronic music which usually seemed like it was supposed to go with a different song. Overall, I found this album boring and had a difficult time making myself listen to the entire thing. Pompeii was probably the only song on the entire album I liked.

E.S. Posthumus are a strangely alternative epica group. Shying away from the classic choral/orchestral beats and screaming choirs of TSFH, Audiomachine, Immediate, Epic Score, and Brand X, they go after a more new age sound: a soothing electronic base for good orchestral melodies. It's a welcome stroke of variety, and doesn't outstay its welcome as quickly as mainstream epica. It reminds me a bit of a mixture of Mark Petrie's electronic explosions and Kerry Muzzey's relaxed, beautiful violin strokes. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is the slight blending together of the tracks. While it cannot be said that they do not have their own identity, it is remarkably hard to discern when one track ends and another begins. But mainly, E.S. Posthumus add an alternative, new age edge to the epica genre, which in my opinion is very welcome.

If you like Two Steps From Hell or Thomas Bergersen, you'll love this album.
